Job Description:   Maintenance Repairers are skilled in many craft areas such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, and air conditioning and heating. Maintenance Repairers repair and maintain buildings, mechanical equipment, and machinery in hospitals, schools, restaurants, factories, office building, retail stores, and wholesale firms. They perform preventive maintenance to assure that everything operates smoothly. Repairers use all types of common hand and power tools as well as specialized tools and electrical test equipment.

To give you an idea of how much you might earn, we have given you the average hourly wages and average yearly wages for this career throughout California. Wages can vary greatly in different parts of the State.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. High school graduate preferred
  2. Science, math, mechanical drawing, woodworking, electrical, blueprint reading, and other shop courses
  3. Mechanical aptitude
  4. Manual dexterity
  5. Ability to solve problems
  6. Good health, physical stamina, and lifting ability
  7. Willingness to take computer courses to keep up with new technology

 Possible Job Paths:
 Maintenance Repairers can move up to Maintenance Supervisor or one of the craft specialties such as: Carpenter, Plumber, HVAC Technician, Industrial Machinery Mechanic, Electrician, Furnace Installer and Repairer, or Painter.
