Data Processing Equipment Repairers

Job Description:   Data Processing Equipment Repairers check, clean, and adjust the mechanical and electronic elements of computers of all types, word processing systems, and peripheral devices such as printers, remote terminals, and other devices. Repairers check the equipment for loose connections, defective components, faulty circuit boards, and damaged parts. They run diagnostic programs and use sophisticated test instruments to locate and troubleshoot computer problems. Repairs are made using hand tools such as soldering equipment, needle nose pliers, and wire strippers. Repairers also install new computer systems and prepare them for use.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. A certificate or an associate's degree in electronics or data processing technology preferred
  2. Analytical skills, ability to work from blueprints, schematics, sketches, and follow verbal instructions
  3. Good color vision and manual dexterity
