Job Description:   Occupational Therapy Aides work under the direction of Occupational Therapists or Occupational Therapy Assistants to assist in rehabilitative activities and exercises to help persons with impairments. Aides are responsible for non-client-related tasks such as preparing activity materials and equipment, maintaining the work areas, transporting clients, ordering supplies, and performing a variety of clerical tasks. Aides also perform client-related tasks of a routine nature under the direct supervision of a therapist or assistant.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent
  2. Good health and strength

 Where to get training locally:   Occupational Therapy Aides are normally trained by employers on-the-job. Occupational Therapy Aides may later become Occupational Therapy Assistants by completing a two-year education and training program at a community college or technical or vocational training school and passing a certification exam.

 Possible Job Paths:
 Occupational Therapy Aides can move up to Occupational Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or related health care professions.
