Job Description:   Home Health Care Workers, also known as Home Health Aides and Home Attendants are employed by private and public health care agencies to provide home care for the aged or disabled. Home health aides assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and moving about. They also prepare meals, clean rooms, do laundry and change bed linens. Workers provide emotional support and give instructions on self-care. They may also care for children living in the home.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. Interest in and sympathetic attitude toward the care of clients
  2. Home health aide certificate issued by the State Department of Health Services
  3. Desire to help others
  4. Good judgement
  5. Tactful
  6. Emotional stability
  7. Ability to work with others
  8. Valid California Driver License
  9. Access to an automobile is required

 Where to get training locally:   Community colleges and vocational schools offer specialized training. In order to qualify for a cetificate, applicants must meet the following requirements: undergo a fingerprint criminal background check, and complete 55 supervised clinical training hours and 65 hours of classroom training.

 Possible Career Paths:
 Home Health Care Workers can move up to a Medical Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse
