Job Description:   Waiters and Waitresses work in restaurants, hotel dining rooms, coffee shops, diners, resorts, and other food and beverage establishments where they take customer orders, serve food and beverages, and prepare itemized receipts. Waiters and Waitresses may work in coffee shops where service must be both quick and efficient. Duties may also include escorting customers to tables, taking payments, working as cashiers, and setting up and clearing tables. Those employed by fine restaurants, where meals are more carefully prepared, are expected to provide more personal service.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. High school graduate preferred
  2. Ability to use simple arithmetic, follow directions, remember orders, read, and write
  3. Neat, well groomed appearance
  4. Good manual dexterity
  5. Pleasant personality
  6. Good health and physical stamina
  7. Ability to get along with others

 Possible Job Paths:
 Waiters or Waitresses can move up to Head Waiter or Waitress, Dining Room Supervisor, or Restaurant Manager.
