Job Description:   Bookkeepers maintain complete and up-to-date systematic records of accounts and financial transactions.
Accounting Clerks calculate, post and verify primary financial data used to produce and maintain financial and statistical documents.
Auditing Clerks verify the accuracy of figures and calculations of business transactions recorded by other workers.

All operate calculators, typewriters, and copiers. Many operate computers and computer terminals to record, store, and analyze data. Their work also involves a variety of routine clerical duties.

Basic Job Requirements:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent desirable
  2. Detail oriented, accurate, and trustworthy
  3. Good math ability
  4. Good communication skills
  5. Word processing, spreadsheet and database software experience desirable (Spreadsheet experience is especially important for bookkeepers)

 Where to get training locally:   High schools, community colleges, adult education schools, public and private vocational schools, business schools, and local government/private industry training providers.

 Possible Job Paths:
 Bookkeepping, Accounting, or Auditing Clerks can move up to Accountants, Certified Public Accountants, Chief Accountants, Office or Credit Managers, or Auditors.
